Distance Education & its Benefits
In recent times, many students are seeking to go for distance education course or correspondence courses in India. Distance Education helps the aspiring students to extend a dynamic personality for themselves as they help them to connect in several activities. Everyone is not fortunate enough to get complete education before starting their careers. Some students are forced to discontinue their education due to financial matters and other issues. For these students distance learning has come as blessings.
Distance Education Council was formed in India under the Indira Gandhi Open University Act (I985). The council was established for ensuring the smooth running of various distance and Open University educational programs. Colleges, universities, and institutions are bound to operate according to the guidelines and norms set by this council. Today in India, there are approximately 1 crore students admitted themselves for distance courses.
Distance education is imparted by three kinds of institutions:
- Open Universities exclusively involved in imparting higher education through the distance mode.
- Departments of Correspondence Courses in universities and university level institutions.
- A large number of private institutions mostly offering professional courses.
Benefits of Distance Education
Distance education is an education system in which a student need not to be present in the class room or campus to learn. It is beneficial for those who wish to add more qualification to their resumes and give wings to their careers. Homemakers and students, who can not join a regular college or university due to stiff competition in entrance examinations, will find distance education immensely helpful to build their careers. Distance education eliminates the need of attending classes and a student can study at home. This will exclude the tuition fees and other college/university facility fees. Examinations are conducted at many places simultaneously all over the country. So it will be easier for students to attend the exams. The students with correspondence courses can get good opportunities to enhance their qualifications.
